Kovalam Beach
Kovalam is a small village situated on the Malabar Coast along the Kerala
shoreline. After being discovered this beautiful and secluded beach of south
became an instant hit among people in a short period of time. Kovalam Beach
is known as the "Paradise of the South". Today it has become one
of the most popular beach hangouts in whole of India. It is 16 kms from Thiruvananthapuram
city. Kovalam Beach is popular in the international arena as well and it comprises
of three contiguous crescent beaches. 'Lighthouse Beach' in the south, is
the most popular one among all three.
Kovalam, the local vernacular word literally means a grove of coconut trees
and truly the coconut trees along the beach gives it a serenic look. Best
time to visit - September to March.
Beypore Beach
Beypore is one of the major ports and fishing harbours since the ancient times.
Beypore Beach is located at the entrance of the Chaliyar River in Kozhikode
(Calicut) district. The Beypore beach is located at a distance of 10 kms from
the southern part of Kozhikode.
Beypore beach has a bridge built nearly 2 kms into the sea. It was constructed
using colossal stones piled up collectively creating a passageway into the
sea.
Beypore beach in the south India state of Kerala is popular for the manufacturing
of the Uru, the traditional (Arabian trading vessel). It was once most sought
after place for merchants from Western Asia, for its ship building industry.
One can visit Beypore beach throughout the year, as the climate here is too
pleasant.
Varkala Beach
On the northern side of the famous Kovallam beach is a small village named
Varkala. Besides being a famous and mesmerizing beach Varkala is also an important
Hindu pilgrimage center as the 2000-year-old Janardana Swamy Temple of Lord
Vishnu resides over here, adding to attraction of Varkala Beach. Varkala Beach
is about 42 kms from Thiruvanathapuram, the capital city of Kerala.
The Varkala Beach on the coastal shores of Kerala is famous for watching
beautiful sunset. Delicious food and adventurous water sports add to its beauty.
Best time to visit is from November till May.
Kappad Beach
Kappad Beach is 16 kms away from Kozhikode city in the South Indian state
of Kerala. This beach is famous for its pristine beauty and picturesque surroundings.
Locally known as Kappakadavu, this is a famous, untouched and calm beach,
strewn with hard rocks.
This temple situated on the rock is stretched into the sea and is one of
the major attractions of the Kappad beach (This temple is believed to be 800
years old).
Kappad Beach is a historically significant beach where Vasco da Gama landed
on 27th May 1498 with 170 men in three ships. The temple on the rock is believed
to be 800 years old.
